Neo-classicism: A decorative style used in architecture, furniture and
decoration/ornamentation derived from the interest in the Classical world which
spread through Europe in the second half of the C18th, spurred on by the Grand
Tours popular at the time. It was made popular in Britain by Robert Adam
(1728-1792) and others, who used the classical motifs in completely new ways.
